Hsinchu, December 8, 2025 — Business Weekly recently released their "Carbon Competitiveness Top 100" list for 2025. A total of 582 publicly listed companies were assessed this year, the highest number since Business Weekly began compiling this list four years ago. WNC Corporation (WNC) was named to the list this year, receiving recognition as a carbon reduction leader in the electronics manufacturing industry. The company's carbon productivity growth rate and carbon emissions reduction rate both ranked in the top three among companies in the Network Communications Industry: Equipment and Hardware Manufacturing category. WNC was commended for its efforts and achievements in renewable energy use, carbon reduction, green product development, and waste management.
Business Weekly began its "Carbon Competitiveness Top 100" assessment in 2022, leveraging the power of the fourth estate to urge companies to respond to climate change. Working with experts in sustainable practices from industry and academia, Business Weekly screens publicly listed companies in Taiwan to select eligible candidates for assessment. Centering on the theme of carbon, the panel of judges for the assessment analyzes publicly available data on candidates, including their carbon emissions reduction rate, carbon productivity growth rate, carbon reduction commitments, the highest governance unit for sustainability, and Scope 3 emissions disclosures. Surveys containing questions on topics such as net-zero targets, low-carbon innovation, carbon pricing and carbon credit planning are also sent to candidates. The 100 companies with the most robust carbon-management practices are then selected. WNC's Chief Sustainability Officer, Molly Lin, said, "Sustainability transformation is an ever-evolving challenge. We have chosen to confront this challenge head on, with the goal of maintaining steady progress in carbon reduction, establishing clear sustainability governance mechanisms and strategies, and balancing corporate growth with sustainable development."
WNC's science-based targets have been validated by SBTi, and the company has committed to reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% (base year: 2022) and Scope 3 emissions by 25% (base year: 2023) by 2030, and to achieving net zero by 2050. In 2024, it achieved an absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions of over 13%, and in Scope 3 emissions of 5.78%, surpassing the company's annual targets. To reduce its Scope 3 emissions, WNC is using digital tools and a diverse set of mechanisms to create a sustainable supply chain. The company sends out greenhouse gas and product carbon footprint surveys to suppliers annually, then imports the survey results into its in-house supplier carbon management platform for analysis, allowing it to monitor suppliers' emission-reduction targets and performance. On the product side, WNC implements carbon reduction measures in each stage of the product life cycle, including design, purchasing, manufacturing, transportation, and recycling/recovery, accelerating the development of innovative, low-carbon products.
WNC has joined RE100 and is committed to achieving 100% renewable energy use by 2040. The company has installed solar panels at its sites in Taiwan, China, and Vietnam, helping it achieve a renewable energy usage rate of 21.06% in 2024. It has also implemented the ISO 50001 energy management system and a smart energy management platform to improve energy-saving performance. In addition, WNC has collaborated with the National Taiwan University Experimental Forest Management Office to plant 1.4 hectares of native Taiwanese saplings along the Xiluo side of the Zhuoshui River. This small forest, named the WNC Forest Park, obtains an average of 14 tonnes of CO2e in carbon credits each year, improves local dust and haze issues, and is a suitable area for conducting ecological monitoring. WNC has also established a biodiversity database to protect biodiversity in the park. Going forward, WNC will continue to focus on industry academia collaboration and ecological monitoring as well as diversify its carbon credit portfolio to reduce carbon emissions, facilitate reforestation and species protection, and help create a sustainable supply chain, with the ultimate goal being to foster harmonious development for humans and the environment.
