WNC's S3 Site Obtains UL 2799 Zero Waste to Landfill Platinum Rating, Setting an Example for a Circular Economy

Hsinchu, October 15, 2025 — WNC Corporation's S3 site has obtained a platinum rating, the highest level of certification, in UL 2799’s Zero Waste to Landfill validation program. The site has achieved a 100% waste diversion rate, along with 9% thermal processing with energy recovery. UL Solutions Taiwan CEO Tsai Ying-che himself presented this certification to WNC. S3 Plant Manager Philly Yu expressed, “Going forwards, we will continue to implement carbon reduction and recycling initiatives to make an even greater contribution to the sustainable development of the company.” Through this achievement, WNC is setting an example for Taiwan industry and demonstrating the company's determination to move towards a net-zero future.

WNC's S3 site utilizes a dual-track approach of in-site control and off-site guidance to comprehensively inventory the composition of its waste, conduct source traceability management, and plan waste removal. The site also collaborates with partners to research methods to classify and reuse waste, successfully converting some non-recyclable materials into renewable resources. For example, used PCB shielding covers, foam, and paper carrier tapes at the site are all converted into sawdust, recycled pellets, and recycled pulp, achieving carbon emission reduction goals.

Other waste management measures include expanding waste storage areas, improving employee training on waste reduction, and strengthening waste storage area management. Measures such as secondary sorting by cleaning staff, strict controlling of recycling quality, and improving reuse efficiency are also being implemented to help ensure the purity and value of recycled materials. In addition, the company is assisting vendors such as food waste handlers, packaging material suppliers and transportation companies to introduce UL 2799 methodologies and set related goals as well as conduct packaging material recycling data analysis. WNC is also promoting a pallet recycling program, returning discarded but usable pallets to partner freight operators. Over 10 tonnes of wood waste can be recycled per month in this way.

WNC is also proactive in promoting low-carbon transformation and striving to become a net-zero enterprise. By optimizing production processes and waste reduction mechanisms at our production sites around the world, we are increasing waste conversion rates and effectively reducing our environmental impact and greenhouse gas emissions. We are also requiring suppliers to implement energy management and carbon reduction measures to reduce waste at the source, responding to customer expectations for high-quality products while strengthening our sustainable competitiveness and building a cleaner and safer future for the next generation.
